About the Author

John P. BrackinJohn P. Brackin grew up in Greenwood, Miss., and was educated at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn. He attended college at Auburn University, where he graduated Cum Laude in 1994 with a B.A. in Psychology. John has also studied English Literature at the University of New Orleans and Mass Communication at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1995, he spent a semester abroad at the Institute of International Studies in Seville, Spain.

In 2003, John published his first book, Stealth Patrol: The Making of a Vietnam Ranger, which he coauthored with Sgt. Bill Shanahan of the 75th Infantry Rangers. It was named a Finalist for the 2003 Army Historical Foundation’s Distinguished Writing Award, as well as a Military Book Club selection and a Colby Award nominee. In support of the book, John appeared as a guest on the nationally syndicated radio program DayBreak USA.

John currently contributes articles to the Alabaster Newsletter in Alabaster, Ala. His writing has appeared in Alabama Living, Cobblestone, General Aviation News, The Southern Aviator, Family Motor Coaching, The Chronicle of the Old West, Funds for Writers, The Strategy Page, Military, Back Porch Magazine, Limesink, and Panic Attack.

Among his hobbies, he counts tennis, reading, and eating pasta.
